AKA Zuz's spends her Birthday Waterstones Vouchers :-)
I love love LOVE OCTOBER!!
There are two reasons why. Firstly, it's the time when you can see signs of the Autumn. The leaves fall down from the trees and start to decorate the streets. The sun is still shining and the temperature is slowly cooling off. Well that sounds like an ideal autumn, doesn't it?? Maybe there is a place like that in the world - Canada, USA, France.. But unfortunately, me and my friends live in temperamental England. That means weather which changes its mind on daily bases. And of course, lawfully we are moaning about it. It's the rule. But it also means more time to spend indoors, snuggled up on the sofa with a book in the hand. MY FAVOURITE TIME. EVER. PERIOD. And that brings me to the second reason why I like October the most. It's my birthday. And that means Waterstones vouchers!! YES!!!
New books freshly purchased are finding their new home on my book shelf. And with this comes to my monthly BOOK BONANZA.
OCTOBER BOOK BONANZA
HOW I LIVE NOW by Meg Rosoff
Fifteen-year-old New Yorker Daisy is sent to live in the English countryside with cousins she's never even met. When England is attacked and occupied by an unnamed enemy, the cousins find themselves on their own. Power fails, systems fail. As they grow more isolated, the farm becomes a kind of Eden, with no rules. Until the war arrives in their midst.
Daisy's is a war story, a survival story, a love story - all told in the voice of subversive and witty teenager. This book crackles with anxiety and with lust. It's a stunning and unforgettable first novel that captures the essence of the age of terrorism : how we live now.
THE BOOK THIEF by Markus Zusak
Here is a small fact: YOU ARE GOING TO DIE.
1939. Nazi Germany. The country is holding its breath. Death has never been busier.
Liesel, a nine-year-old girl, is living with a foster family on Himmel Street. Her parents have been taken away to a concentration camp. Liesel steals books. This is her story and the story of the inhabitants of her street when the bombs begin to fall.
Some important information: THIS NOVEL IS NARRATED BY DEATH.
It's a small story about:
a girl + an accordionist + some fanatical Germans + a Jewish fist fighter + and quite a lot of thievery.
Another thing you should know: DEATH WILL VISIT THE BOOK THIEF THREE TIMES.
DELIRIUM by Lauren Oliver
What if love were a disease?
They say that the cure for love will make me happy and safe forever. And I've always believed them.
Until now.
Now everything has changed. Now, I'd rather be infected with love for the tiniest sliver of a second than live a hundred years suffocated by a lie.
There was time when love was the most important thing in the world. People would go to the end of the earth to find it. They would tell lies for it. Even kill for it.
Then, at last, they found the cure.
THE OUTLINE OF LOVE by Morgan McCarthy
It started with obsession.
Persephone Triebold has never felt complete. After a childhood spent in the isolation of the Scottish Highlands with just her father for company, she takes the first opportunity to head for London.
The city is intoxicating, but for Persephone something, still, is lacking. It's only when she meets the celebrated author Leo Ford that she realises he is what's been missing. Persephone works her way into his world, yet he somehow remains just beyond her grasp, and she becomes increasingly curious about hints of a disturbing incident in his past...
THE BOY IN THE STRIPED PYJAMAS by John Boyne
The story of THE BOY IN THE THE STRIPED PYJAMAS is very difficult to describe. Usually we give some clues about the book on the cover, but in this case we think that would spoil the reading of the book. We think it is important that you start to read without knowing what it is about.
If you do start to read this book, you will go on a journey with a nine-year-old boy called Bruno. (Thought this isn't a book for nine-year-olds.) And sooner or later you will arrive with Bruno at a fence. Fences like this exist all over the world We hope you never have to cross such a fence.

ON THE ROAD by Jack Kerouac
The Original Scroll
The legendary first draft - rougher, wilder, and racier that the 1957 edition.
During three weeks in 1951, Jack Kerouac wrote the first draft of ON THE ROAD - typed as a long, single-spaced paragraph on eight sheets of tracing paper, which he taped together to form a scroll. Representing the identifiable point at which his vision and narrative voice first came together in a sustained burst of creative energy, the scroll is the "uncut" version of Kerouac's masterpiece - rougher, wilder, and more sexually explicit than the edited work that appeared in 1957. ON THE ROAD: The Original Scroll is Kerouac's signature achievement - and one of the most significant, celebrated, and provocative documents in American literary history.
10 books. 10 authors. 10 very different stories.
And I've got them finally in my personal library. I hope that you will find something which might be an interest to you. I will try to work my way through them, but it might be a while before you see the first reviews. The reason is simple. According to Goodreads I have 38 books to read. So I am trying to work my way through them. And once they are read and finish, I will share my views here with you, so watch the space.
HAPPY READING LOVELIES xXx
